The 2021 Houston Professional Petroleum Data Expo is being held at the Westin Memorial City this week, October 25 – 26. The meeting primarily focuses on how to handle big data: acquiring it, computation, storage, and interpretation. The theme of the conference is “Adapting, Surviving, and Thriving with Data.” I met some folks there who are pretty serious about data.

Here is a list of topics:
- Data and digital transformation
- Cloud computing
- Geoscience data
- Artificial intelligence
- Data trust and curation

Here is a short list of exhibitors:
- Esri
- Quorum
- Enverus
- WellDrve
- Snowflake

What I got at this meeting is that AI is behind everything. Of course, some AI programs are better than others. For instance, interpreting graphics cannot be done by all routines. In those cases, human judgement is needed. The event closes today.
