The Supreme Court voted today, 6 to 3 to protect the employment of the LBGTQ. Employers cannot discipline, fire, nor reject application for employment based on sexual orientation. The judges who voted for the protection say that sexual orientation is protected by the 1964 Civil Rights Act. What? I thought that was about protecting racial minorities?
The judges who voted against were Alito, Kavanaugh, and Thomas. Gorsuch and Roberts voted for the protection.
What I can see is that there are currently 5 Catholic judges: Thomas, Roberts, Alito, Sotomayor, and Kavanaugh. In previous ages, the Pope would have excommunicated people for openly supporting things like abortion and homosexuality; but this was reserved for people with large public profiles. My understanding is that Frank Sinatra was excommunicated for divorce and his playboy, jetset lifestyle.
However, the Vatican remains silent. Instead, the Pope goes to Panama and encourages illegal immigration. I wonder if things are really this bleak or I am just not looking at things correctly.
