This is the first Rice baseball game that I have ever attended. The Owls squared off against Missouri State on February 28, 2020, at Rice University. In my own eyes, the images were surreal: such an earthy and palpable sport, baseball, being played under the shadow of the Texas Medical Center skyline.
From the first pitch, things did not look good for Rice. Missouri hit a home run in the top of the first inning. The Bears were up 4 points as Rice stepped to the plate. Then boom, Rice gets their fair share of home runs and is up 7 to 4 at the bottom of the first inning. At the bottom of the 3rd inning, Rice is up 11 to 4; and that is pretty much how things remained for the rest of the game.
In a nutshell, I think Rice has a pretty good baseball team. I saw some really good skills in this game. Although this was the first win for the Owls thus far, this team has got good talent and great potential. I plan to see more of these games.
I think the photo above is really cool. The Owls placed that ball perfectly – the Bears are stumbling over each other as they try to make the play. Good luck Missouri State. What a beautiful skyline.
