The Risk Management in Energy Trading Conference was held at the Hotel ICON in downtown Houston, February 26 – 27, 2020. The name of the game is forecasting trends in the energy commodity market. This conference is not for the faint of heart: finance can be as mathematical as quantum physics – although this conference is not quite to that extent.
Here is what was discussed at the conference:
- Renewable energy trading and risk
- LNG trading
- Data science and AI in energy trading
- Blockchain
- Mitigate risk
- Risk due to weather and climate change
From what I can see, the goal is to hedge against disruptions in the trading of things like electricity, natural gas, and oil, using tools like call and put options. This event is held at least once a year in Houston. It is well represented by fine people in our industry. The conference is organized by Marcus Evans.
