The Project Management & Controls for EPC and Heavy Industry Conference is held July 17 – 18, 2019, at the ICON Hotel in Houston, Texas.  Personally, I found the conference to be very informative.  The subjects that seemed to be at the top of people’s minds were negotiating contracts, risks associated with bidding, cross training, and project management software.

Operators in this business sure do like that “hard dollar” bid.  Problem is that, without getting into the nitty gritty details of a project, how can one fully estimate the cost?  So many things can go wrong; for instance, pumps cavitate due to lack of NPSH, changes in the retrofit require a large amount of vessels to have their nozzle sizes altered, PSVs need to be replaced because they are now too small, hurricanes, and labor strikes.

Here are some other items that were of interest

  • Team Building
  • Owner/Contractor Communication
  • Technology Trends
  • Scheduling
