The Energy Drone and Robotics Summit officially kicked off yesterday. The conference is being held at the Marriott Hotel in the Woodlands. What makes this venue great is the free parking in the garage across the street, with attached skyway.
I learned two things at the conference:
- We typically think of drones as a hovering type object. However, if you got a pipeline that must be scanned, then it is important to change the design. Engineering the drone such that it flies like an airplane gives the device a larger linear range.
- The second thing I learned is that drones are being used in close conjunction with police, fire, and other emergency responders. Drones were used at the recent benzene fire along Houston’s ship channel. Drones told firemen where the hot spots were, which tanks were not on fire, and allowed post event inspection of the tanks.
The conference ends today. Please visit their website https://stonefortgroup.com/energy-drone-coalition-2019/
