HOUSTON – Wonder what your refinery’s or plant’s true fire risk is? The downstream oil and gas industry now has a brand-new way to assess – and, ultimately, fight – that risk, as AkzoNobel, a global paints and protective coatings leader, is launching a data-driven passive fire protection (PFP) “Severity Assessment Survey”. The company is introducing the new service at the Downstream 2019 Exhibition & Conference in Houston (June 11 – 12, 2019), where it is also sponsoring the first-day luncheon.

The new AkzoNobel PFP Severity Assessment Surveys follow more than two years of extensive internal fire testing, including temperature and risk analysis, which generated unrivaled, industry-leading data that now enables downstream oil and gas refineries and plants to more accurately determine their fire risk. AkzoNobel offers the new surveys on two levels of service: 1) a data-supported visual inspection, and 2) a predictive engineering assessment of the impact a fire could have on a plant.

We are thrilled to now be able to offer brand-new, data-based solutions for our oil and gas partners, which will help them like never before in creating more cost-efficient plant maintenance and a safer working environment,” says Ian Rowell, AkzoNobel Segment Manager for Downstream Oil and Gas Protective Coatings. “Our detailed Severity Assessment Surveys – combined with our 45-plus years of passive fire protection experience – can highlight problem areas by comparing defects with tested and approved data. By incorporating our proven quantitative analysis into existing qualitative systems, we can now provide informed insights for a tailored fire engineering solution, which will help our customers protect their downstream plants from corrosion, prevent loss of assets, protect structural integrity and help protect lives.”

With the introduction of Severity Assessment Surveys, AkzoNobel is expanding its International® brand of protective coatings systems and maintenance services, which includes the industry-leading Chartek® product line.

The company will highlight all its downstream maintenance coating solutions at Downstream 2019 booth E42. Alongside the new Severity Assessment Surveys and its proven International brand PFP systems, Chartek epoxy intumescent coating technologies and Intercrete® advanced cementitious coatings will also be showcased.
