The Decommissioning and Abandonment Summit 2019 is in Houston, March 26 – 27, 2019, Royal Sonesta Hotel.  I learned some interesting things at the conference yesterday.  Once a well is no longer producing oil, a study must be done to determine if removing the equipment will negatively impact sea life.  While the well was producing oil, sea life was making its home within its closed spaces.  If the study determines that taking the equipment out will cause more harm, then the equipment is just abandoned in place.

Here are some other hot topics discussed at the event.

  • Process optimization
  • Deepwater subsea projects
  • Evolving digitization for decommissioning
  • Technology innovation
  • Updates on Regulation

The conference ends today.  https://www.decomworld.com/gom/
