While attending the OSHA Oil and Gas Safety and Health Conference in Houston earlier this month, I stopped by the Remote Medical International booth. They provide staff and consulting for medical services offered at remote and harsh environments. Here is a description of the company from their website.
Remote Medical International helps clients manage and improve the health, safety, and well-being of their global workforce, wherever they may be, by offering a set of integrated occupational health care services. With over 15 years of experience in over 150 countries and on every ocean, Remote Medical International can deliver a comprehensive set of services including staffing, medical screening, injury and evacuation coordination, and medical equipment. Remote Medical International has been recognized six time by the Inc. 5000 as one of the fastest growing companies in the United States, and has been recognized twice by the International Stability Operations Association. Remote Medical International is part of the Columbia Pacific family of companies and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, USA, with offices in Washington D.C., USA, Newcastle, U.K., and Nairobi, Kenya.
Two years ago, I was doing oil and gas consulting for a US firm in Kazakhstan. Working as a 1099 consultant, I had health insurance from the US; but it never occurred to me that I may need more comprehensive overseas insurance. The firm I consulted for never said anything about insurance. I assumed the client in Kazakhstan would take care of everything. Now that I think about it, perhaps I was seriously exposed with regard to my health insurance.
