I had an opportunity to attend the Machine Learning and AI Upstream Onshore Oil and Gas 2018 Conference this week, held at the Doubletree Hotel Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas. While at the conference, I had a chance to speak with Jeff Cornelius of Darktrace. Jeff states that even if you think your plant is isolated from the dark web, it still may not be. Malware can still slip in via firmware updates or even usb drives. He asserts that a total comprehensive solution is necessary because an isolated OT system is not always the best solution.
